Ca de obicei, cinemaul lui Ion Grigorescu scapă cuvântului: video-performanțe, filmări de familie, crâmpeie de natură, jocuri ritualice, toate laolaltă într-un film instabil precum Âme ( suflet), montate în dialog cu fragmente de scrieri și idei canonice (unele biblice, altele greu de identificat; finalul, de pildă, trimite la teoriile despre oglindă ale lui Lacan). Toate aceste elemente dau senzația unor puneri în scenă, uneori absurde, alteori violente, mai mereu pioase în aparență. Âme este filmul a cărui proiecție a făcut autoritățile comuniste să închidă expoziția Fotografie și film experimental. Studii, proiecte, documentație plastică din 1979, invocându-se scena circumciziei. (Călin Boto)

Ion Grigorescu

Born in 1945 in Bucharest, Ion Grigorescu is one of the most distinguished artists of the Romanian artistic Neo‑avant‑garde, being also a member of the Prolog group. Proposing a wide‑ranging corpus of works—from painting to photography, from body art to video performance, from painting of Orthodox churches to diary—which do not necessarily comply with the historical canons of art, he remains the most challenging Romanian name for art criticism, history and curatorship.
